I remember laying in the hospital with my brand new baby thinking to myself. She’s asleep so I should sleep, but my husband is also asleep so, who will watch her sleep? The protective thoughts you have as a mama come so fast. Bringing her home I had a whole plan created to keep her as safe as possible. I had heard of SIDS and it terrified me, so I had taken every precaution I could before her arrival. I purchased her a pulse ox monitor and it saved my sanity. It is called the Owlet Dream Sock Owlet Dream Sock® – FDA-Cleared Smart Baby Monitor – Track Live Pulse (Heart) Rate, Oxygen in Infants – Receive Notifications it will monitor your baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels while they sleep. Seriously the biggest peace of mind and the one thing I purchased that I cannot and will not go without. I was able to sleep when she slept, and not wake up in a total panic if she slept for more than 2 hours straight. Trust me, mama you’ll want to purchase one for your little too.
The second thing I purchased was a breathable mattress from Newton, not only do they meet but they exceed the safety standards for infant & toddler mattresses Newton Baby Essential Crib Mattress – Safe, Ultra-Breathable & Machine Washable Infant Crib Mattress, Removable Cover, Thick Cushion – White My baby was a tummy sleeper from the moment she could roll over, having a mattress you can actually see through is the ultimate comfort in knowing if they roll over face down in their sleep they will be okay. This purchase is easily number two that I couldn’t live without. The random late-night spit-up wasn’t such a worry either, you can throw the whole mattress in the shower and rinse it off, set it aside to dry, and viola, a clean smell-free mattress.
If your little one is a wild sleeper like mine, these two things helped me so much especially the Owlet sock. Those late nights with the first fevers or the first colds just gave me so much comfort as a first-time mama. I plan on using the Owlet and the same Newton mattress for my baby girl on the way. I hope these things help you make safe & healthy decisions for your little ones!
Until next time,
Kinda Crunchy Mama
